Statements of Purpose

The BFA is professional organization that consists of a group of faculty members, administrators and others who are committed to assisting and working with others to achieve goals that promote and enhance university diversity initiatives.

  1. The Black Faculty Association is a supportive, viable organization within the university; one that is critical to the success of those who value and embrace diversity.
  2. The Association is valued as a critical institutional resource.
  3. Members of the BFA are committed to establishing working relationships with key administrators and units on campus.
  4. The BFA is as an organization that understands the critical aspects of Black faculty achieving success (Promotion & Tenure).
  5. Members of the the BFA believe that this university with its many resources can become the model ?diversity? land grant institution. Clearly, we would like to see a comprehensive plan (reflective of the institutional infrastructure) that would be shared implemented and evaluated over time.
  6. We believe that West Virginia University with its many resources can achieve the following:
  • An increase in the number of Black faculty members actively recruited to WVU.
  • An increase in the number of Black faculty members hired at WVU.
  • An increase in the number of Black students recruited and retained.
  • An increase in the number of Black faculty achieving Promotion & Tenure.
  • An increase in initiatives that promote successful pathways for faculty of color to secure leadership positions.
  • A robust data collection system and an assessment plan to evaluate and monitor the success of special initiatives.
